HONG KONG, 4 January 2018 –  Located in the historic core of Hong Kong's Central district, 28 Aberdeen St offers a total of 40 beautifully crafted residential units -- 38 one-bedroom apartments, one duplex unit with a flat roof and one penthouse with a top roof. Today, Alex Leung, Partner and Head of Projects at The Development Studio (tds), and Frank Leung, Founder and Principal at via architecture will be present at the project to explain its design concept and introduce visitors to the two 20/F show flats, one furnished and one unmodified.

  • The building is exquisitely framed with metallic materials in dark shades to create steadiness and splendour while highlighting graceful curves and layering.
  • The interior of 28 Aberdeen Street by designer Frank Leung is created as an update to the "urban sanctuary" typology.
  • A beautiful internal courtyard beckons is designed by well-known landscape architect Adrian Norman.
  • A stone sculpture created by Japanese sculptor Masatoshi Izumi stands in the centre of the courtyard. The typical floor comprises two flats. Both of the flats are a one-bedroom design. Each flat has a saleable floor area of 407 sq. ft.,
  • All the angles of the building – in the lobby as well as inside the flat inside are softened by curves to create a calm and soothing effect.
  • The double-door design between living space and bedroom allows the user to transform the space into different spaces.

Unlike mass-produced units, 28 Aberdeen St. has meticulously focused on every detail of the project, with the aid of top-notch masters from a range of specialties. Its intricate layout and expert craftsmanship combined with a location steeped in culture make 28 Aberdeen St. a perfect blend of art and design.

Stunning exterior

Designed by Wong & Ouyang (HK) Ltd., the building is exquisitely framed with metallic materials in dark shades to create steadiness and splendour while highlighting graceful curves and layering. The exterior walls of the lower-floor commercial space and residential entrance are made of Verde Marina, a natural granite from India, whose fine grain and delicate texture in shades of grey are in a harmonious juxtaposition to the metal of the building. The bronze structure permeates the design of the building, from the details of the exterior to the various installations throughout, not just adding a powerful visual sensation to the building but also enhancing its elegance.

Sumptuous interior design

"Rooted in its superb location and dynamic surroundings, the interior of 28 Aberdeen Street is created as an update to the "urban sanctuary" typology. Extending the sensual, curvilinear geometry of the architecture to the interiors, spatial fluidity is central to the design. A palette of calm, subdued materials, shaped in a simple, modern language, combined with a restrained lighting ambience, the design highlights materiality and craftsmanship in an understated manner," says Frank Leung, Founder and Principal at via architecture, designer of 28 Aberdeen St..

The walk home from Aberdeen Street to the apartment is a joy. The lavishness of the project becomes evident in the opulent reception foyer with a high ceiling and an installation of natural marbles. Outside, a beautiful internal courtyard beckons, designed by well-known landscape architect Adrian Norman. The centrepiece of a Buddhist pine, a second-grade state protected plant, adds a feeling of serenity to the surroundings and a stone sculpture created by Japanese sculptor Masatoshi Izumi stands in the centre of the courtyard. The courtyard is designed to draw natural light into a space filled with greenery, creating a calm and tranquil atmosphere.

This design concept has been applied to the residential units as well, where understated luxury living comes along with exquisite details and practicalities.

Show floor on 20/F

The show floor on 20/F floor comprises two flats. Both of the North and South flats are a one-bedroom design. Each flat has a saleable floor area of 407 sq. ft., which includes an 18-sq-ft balcony and a 14-sq-ft utility platform. The flats have a floor-to-floor height of 3.15 meters.

Unmodified Show Flat – Flat South on 20/F

All the angles of the building – in the lobby as well as inside the flat inside are softened by curves to create a calm and soothing effect. The living / dining room is of a square design, which allows for plenty of living space after been filled with furniture. The floor is made of Spanish plywood tiles in light colour goes well with any furniture. The large window and balcony in the living room are approximately 4.2 meters wide, in line with the width of the living room, drawing in natural light to both the living and dining space.

The open design of the kitchen and the kitchen windows make venting a breeze. The kitchen cabinets, as well as the breadth of the living/dining room, provides ample storage space. The kitchen features top tier fittings made in Germany, such as the Bulthaup kitchen cabinet; the Miele slimline cooker hood, double burners gas hob, microwave oven and refrigerator; and the Siemens washer dryer.

Natural stones have been used for the wall and flooring of the bathroom in standard flats. The bathroom washing basin countertop is made from a whole piece of natural marble instead of the ordinary composite material. The mirror and wooden cabinets provide sufficient storage space for bathroom goods. Thanks to its window, the bathroom offers natural light and a pleasant bathing space.

The bedroom sits on the other side of the living room and has a distinctive layout. Residents can get out of bed on three sides and leave sufficient space to accommodate a wardrobe, even with the double-size bed. The bedroom comprises a utility platform, which draws in natural light.

The double-door design between living space and bedroom is a key element in the apartment. The pivot door has been devised to allow the user to transform the space into different spaces. The bedroom can be transformed into a hotel-like suite when the door in the living room is closed and the door in the bedroom opened. Conversely, when the door in the living room is opened and the door in bedroom is closed, the bathroom space can be transformed into a guest washroom and combined with the living room. This gives residents privacy when they have visitors. Ventilation is improved when both doors are opened. The bathroom can be transformed into a separate powder room and washroom when both doors are closed. The double-door design is a neat concept to utilise all the space in the apartment and offer its residents the flexibility to transform the space according to their own preferences.

Furnished Show Flat – Flat North on 20/F

The distinctive layout with a design concept that features various natural colour tones of the furnished North show flat offers a superb sense of space. Assorted grey fabrics, marble and wood create a stylish and serene living space.

The living room is furnished with a marble-top table and grey-fabric chairs. The open kitchen has been customised specifically for this project with a particular focus on efficient use of space and attention to the user experience. The grey fabric sofa on the other side of the living room, and the two coffee tables with wood and marble attest to a modern and classy style. The floor is covered with a custom-made geometrical-patterned carpet that matches the ocean paintings and creamy white walls.

The bedroom's dark wooden bed and exquisite bedside lights decorations result in a beautifully warm and comfortable ambience while two sets of round tables with marble bases are sitting next to the bed. The blue and white carpet is complementary to the ocean painting on the wall.

The bathroom between the living space and bedroom has light-coloured-marble finishes which makes the space pleasant space to dwell in.
