St George launches new homes at London Dock in East London

Unveiling Saffron Wharf, this new collection of homes - designed by renowned architects Patel Taylor and heralding to the docks’ heritage - form part of a vibrant new community

April 13, 2021

HONG KONG, 13 April 2021 – Saffron Wharf is the latest phase to launch at London Dock this April, comprising 251 apartments, and offering a unique and rare slice of history in the City of London. Delivered by St George – part of the Berkeley Group - and designed by renowned architects, Patel Taylor, the latest release at this thriving 1,800-home neighbourhood offers an eclectic choice of Manhattan, one, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

Steeped in maritime and trading history, and first established over over 220 years ago, in 1805, the former London docks have accommodated up to as many as 500 ships and stored and dealt with over 200,000 tonnes of goods from brandy, wine and rice to fruit, spices, coffee and cocoa. Inspired by the area, Wapping is also the backdrop for several Charles Dickens novels and essays.

Today, St George is transforming the former working docks into an exciting and evolving new cultural quarter, that still retains much of its rich maritime and trading heritage, for all to live, work and play.

Alongside these new homes, London Dock provides an impressive variety of amenities from independent brands, striking listed workspaces, state-of-the-art fitness facilities and beautifully designed public areas all within walking distance of both the water and the buzz of the City.

A vibrant place to call home

The new homes at Saffron Wharf will be located within a striking 18-storey building and are designed as a sanctuary in which to relax. They will all benefit from a private balcony or terrace that looks out over the Pennington Quay Walk, boulevards or water garden – a number of which will extend to 713 square feet, and those on the upper floors will have views of Canary Wharf or the City.

The interiors exude style and sophistication. Basket-weave patterned timber flooring and floor-to-ceiling windows are incorporated into the living space, while in the kitchen area residents have bespoke fluted kitchen cabinets, bronze splashbacks and stone worktops to complement their Miele integrated appliances and wine cooler, which is included in the one, two and three bedroom apartments. In keeping with its heritage, the bathrooms have been designed to reflect the modern industrial aesthetic - feature tiles complement the black-framed bath and shower screens and brushed black metalware.

A creative, flexible and historic place to work

Once home to 50 acres of warehouse space, the new apartments will also sit alongside the Grade II listed, 315 metre long Pennington Street Warehouse – an historic warehouse that has undergone comprehensive refurbishment to create unique and creative office and work spaces, as well as restaurants and bars. Spread across three floors, it includes exposed brickwork walls and archways, natural light-flooded spaces, and high ceilings.

Tenants of Pennington Street Warehouse will be able to take advantage of private south-facing terraces overlooking Pennington Quay Walk.

A thriving collection of businesses, eateries and culture

At the heart of London Dock’s curation, this new neighbourhood will comprise 180,000 sq. ft of shops, bars and restaurants including Champagne Route, and Gauging Square - a grand public piazza. Tree-lined streets will also line Pennington Quay Walk, and join 7.5 acres of landscaped open space, incorporating a tranquil water garden, winter garden, waterside promenade and water feature inspired by Le Miroir d’eau, a water mirror at the Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux.

Residents at Saffron Wharf will have exclusive access to onsite facilities including a state-of-the-art gymnasium and 20 metre heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, squash court, private screening room, virtual golf suite and 24-hour concierge.

There’s also an array of leisure facilities on London Dock’s doorstep, including 9Round fitness - a specialised gym, fitness centre & health club dedicated to circuit training.

“Located just moments from London landmarks such as Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and St Katharine Docks, London Docks is also within a short walk of Zone 1 transport connections from Tower Hill and Aldgate, enabling residents with swift access across London. Once open, the Elizabeth Line will also serve nearby Whitechapel, providing even greater access to the wider Capital,” said Mandy Wong, Head of International Residential at JLL in Hong Kong.

Prices at Saffron Wharf start from £727,000 (HKD7.74 million) for the Manhattan apartments.
